Vintage Beauties

These beauties come from a factory that closed down. It beats me how a factory that produces such gorgeousness can go out of business.....

Gorgeous buttons from the 1940s and 50s...

I bought 80 cards.....

Autumn Crafting

I've been itching to get this post up on time to celebrate the Autumn season. I haven't had time to do any crafting this season (to find out why not look here), but I still pulled out some warm & cozy colored Autumn supplies to stare at.
I love staring at them. Especially the buttons. :)

Belle of France!

Here is the Belle of France! I had so much fun creating this Marie Antoinette Christmas Button Fairy this weekend. I wanted my fairy to be different from the traditional. So, I called on the lady of "Let them eat cake!" I so hope that my swap partner loves Marie! "Let them eat fruitcake!". Joyeux Noel!

Did You Know . . .

That Muscatine, Iowa is the pearl button capital of the world?!

My friend, Dawn, and I trekked to Iowa this last weekend to visit Sharon at Sweet Repose and to our surprise, we discovered that Muscatine has a rich history in button making. I couldn't wait to share it with the Floozies!

This quaint little town sits right on the Mississippi on the Illinois border. Love this great little boat.

Here's a pic of the paddle complete with pics of buttons!

And lots of the shops and restaurants carried the button theme.

I loved this great gate.

And I had to bring Sharon a picture frame packed with lots of buttons, including some of pearl. How was I to know when constructing this that these buttons may have been making a great big circle back home (got em from my mother-in-law in Alabama).

Sharon and her business partner call their company White and they are the two white girls, lovers of buttons and all things with rich pasts to tell. The next time you're around Iowa City, take a detour down to Muscatine, a cool little town with a great vibe and some awesome people. Thanks again, Sharon!

Fun at Glitterfest!

A couple of weekends ago, my friend Robin and I did an event called Glitterfest here in Southern Calif. (Santa Ana) It was wonderful! There were many well known artists vending and shopping and everyone had a great time....
I had several different items to sell but wanted to show you a couple that included buttons.
My biggest seller were my banners...these are collaged with lots of fun goodies...buttons included! I accidentally posted my pics out of order and for some reason blogger wont let me fix it tonite you will see a close up of one of the buttoned penants soon!

Here is my banner display:
And on the tiered plate display I made lavender sachets that were made with squares cut from sweaters and a button in the middle!

Here is one of the penants with a button......

Then of course I had to stop this shopper and get a picture of her button bracelet.just for you!..she makes them with buttons and safety pins:

All in all, it was a really fun event, lots of inspiration and I just wanted to share!
Hope you are having a spookily wonderful week! karen.....

Vintage Buttons

Recently I have been playing with my buttons. I made some more button bracelets.
An ivory-colored one:

A blue one:

Then I took some pictures of my metal buttons.
These are in one big plastic divided box:

There are some rhinestone ones:

Silver colored ones:

All mixed together:

These usually live in a big glass jar but they came out for a while to play:

Such a wonderful assortment.

These are some red enamel ones.

I don't remember where I got those. Probably in one button tin or the other.

Cute little bear ones:

These came in another button tin I bought a few months ago. They are twinkle backs.

I found out what they are called from a little book I bought recently. I know no more about them and don't really care. I just think they are sweet and I love to play with all buttons.
Come visit me here at Vintage Soul if you like buttons and like making things with them. I am always up to something.

A Steal

You know it's a good day when buttons are on clearance at your local craft store.
Being a faithful Button Floozy, I cannot walk past a clearance bin brimming with buttons.
My heart smiles this thisbig when I think that I only paid 25¢ to 75¢ for each of these lovely button cards.
